Idaho Beef Grazing Video, Finally!

This footage is from last summer and has been sitting on our camcorder for far too long. This will give you an idea of how we move the cows from one paddock to the next using electric fence.

While boring to watch, this is how cows were meant to be raised; low stress with plenty of greens to eat.

We’re ready for Mother’s Day!

The month of April has brought as the the saying goes–Showers. We have had some great and much needed moisture this month and we’re all ready for May flowers.  This has been a great time to plant trees and shrubs, and many of our customers have been doing so.  With the arrival of some sunshine and warmth this week the hanging baskets have really popped.  The pastures and fields are starting to green also, and the neighbors are planting grain crops like mad.

Since this is also my beef blog, let me remind you that we also have great cuts of beef or even hamburger ready for your summer barbeques.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Still looking for Spring?

One of our greenhouses

Yes, we’re still waiting.  It was lovely today however. Especially after all this snow and winter. We’re going to try a few pictures here.  This will show you what we have been up to in the greenhouse.

Spring?

Yep, its spring here.  We got into the greenhouse full bore today.  We are planting our famous Hanging Baskets.  Ninety plus percent of them are already sold and we’re just planting them.  It doesn’t get better than that in the farming business.  (I understand Harley Davidson has a better record than that.)  We’ll be planting seeds, rooted cuttings, and baby plant plugs like crazy for a few weeks now.  Also we got another new calf today.  Pictures coming of all this I hope.  Thanks for watching.

Pictures? We’re trying

I am not very tech savvy.  In my last year of graduate school at the University of Missouri, I was exposed to a few of the earliest desktop microcomputers.  I owned one of the early Radio shack TRS models and we spent somewhere around $3000 just for a software package to do basic accounting.  Since those days I have not kept on the leading edge of this explosion of technology and as you know it doesn’t take long to become obsolete.

I got a digital camera as a gift, now we are going to try to use it.  We had a new calf this past week.  This is from a new heifer in a group of 9 that we are allowing to calve in late winter through early spring.  Most of our other calves are summer or early fall which I like better.   Anyway, this calf is up and going and even sniffing the hay crumbs.

Also, here is a picture of our greenhouse cleaners.  We use them to clean up bugs, weed seeds, plant parts, etc in our back greenhouses.  They leave a little fertilizer too.  The best benefit is the fresh brown eggs with nice dark yolks derived from the high quality green hay we feed them along with the grain pellets.
