What Does Grass-Finished Mean?
There is a lot of confusion about the terms “grass fed” and “grass finished”. This is due to the fact that there is little government regulation of the terms. This is unlike the term “organic” which is very government regulated.
The term “grass finished” when used by the farmer/rancher will probably mean that the animal has been on grass and forage all it’s life. Some consumers will mistakenly think that “grass finished” means that the animal was only on pastures for the last few weeks or months of life. The term “grass fed” is loosely regulated to mean that an animal can only be on a grain diet less than 90 days prior to slaughter. We use the terminology “grass fed and finished” for our products, meaning simply no grain ever.
